Pakistan’s Shameful Racist Ad Insulting Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman Ahead of India-Pak Match on June 16

In the on-going biggest cricket series World Cup 2019, India and Pakistan cricket fans are waiting for much-anticipated match i.e India vs Pakistan. The match is scheduled to happen on June 16, 2019. While the India-Pakistan clash is not a decisive game, it is arguably the tournament’s biggest event. Ahead of it, India-Pakistan ad war heats up and this time, the stakes will be much higher because of the diplomatic tensions between the two neighbours.

Firstly, to build the hype, broadcaster Star Sports has brought back the ‘Mauka Mauka’ ad that had gone viral during the 2015 World Cup and given it a Father’s Day twist for June 16. As expected, the ad mocks Pakistan’s dismal record against India in ICC events, with Pakistan failing to win a single match against the Men in Blue in World Cups so far. Watch the ad here:

Now, it’s Pakistan which demeaned the respectful Indian Air Force officer Abhinandan Varthaman. A Pakistan TV channel, Jazz TV, shared an advertisement which is mocking Abhinandan sir. The character in the 33-second clip sports the pilot’s signature handlebar moustache and is dressed in the Indian cricket team’s blue. He is shown sipping from a cup of tea—much as the real-life Abhinandan did in a video released by the Pakistani military. Watch the ad below:

We condemn both the channels of India and Pakistan for making such commercials that nowhere ooze ecstasy but spread hatred among the people on both sides of the border. Media plays an important role in bringing people together but such gimmicks only tarnish peace and the spirit of the game.
