A Pakistani court on Tuesday imposed an arrest warrant in the name of ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan who recently addressed his supporters to continue the protests amidst the severe political and economic crisis. The court issued notice to appear in the court which has been missed by the minister related to sales of state gifts and assets.

Judge Zafar Iqbal’s order arrived after the political chaos in Pakistan, moreover three other courts stated that the Khan has immunity over arrest on segregated charges of terrorism, attempted murder against a rival politician, and graft.

Amidst tight security, thusands gathered in support of the leader, when recently he made a public appearance in Islamabad. One of the protestor got killed while many were left injured. This later led to nationwide outrage and condemnation.

Khan has been marshalling protests to throw the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif out, in terms of the repoll after five years of completion of Parliament.

Fawad Chaudhry, a senior leader from Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party, averred “a serious threat to the security of Imran Khan and thousands of people” as he moved around the capital. He said Khan was being paraded from one court to another in “fake cases.”

As of the recent development, Islamabad police had arrested Amjad Shoaib, a former army general and Khan closest ally, charged for inciting individuals against national institutions.

The standoff between Khan and Sharif’s government has been severe after the economy declined. Pakistan is now in conversation with the International Monetary Fund to recuperate from the economic disaster it is grappling with after the agreement was signed by Khan, when in power in 2019.
