BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a bold yet historic decision in the history of Indian politics. Home Minister Amit Shah has proposed to remove Article 370 that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a crucial Cabinet meeting at his 7, Lok Kalyan Marg residence along with the other members of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Monday before the big announcement. Amit Shah proposed this decision in the Rajya Sabha and created a massive uproar.
What is Article 370?
Article 370 is a controversial article deals with special powers conferred upon the state of Jammu & Kashmir. It allows the state constituent Assembly to make its own Constitution, thereby giving it an autonomous state power.
Along with that, Article 370 also provides powers like the need of the concurrence of the state government if the central government plans to make amendments to the concurrent list of subjects.
As after BJP’s landmark decision in the unity of our nation India, the Rajya Sabha suffered a massive uproar by the opposition party’s leader. Two leaders of Jammu & Kashmir’s former CM Mehbooba Mufti’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were asked to leave Rajya Sabha on Monday after they attempted to tear the Constitution, in an apparent public display of anger over Government’s move of scrapping the controversial Article 370 and Article 35A.
PDP’s Mir Fayaz and Nazir Ahmed Laway were asked to exit after they made the attempt by the Rajya Sabha chairman Vankaiah Naidu. One of them even tore his kurta in anger.
Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday announced that the contentious Article 370 and Article 35A would be revoked.
