Ness Wadia a renowned businessman and co-owner of IPL team Kings Eleven Punjab is in news for all wrong reasons. He has been sentenced for drugs possession while on a skiing holiday to Japan. Ness was arrested in early March at New Chitose Airport in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

According to the reports, he had 25g of cannabis resin in his trouser pocket as found by sniffer dogs of custom officials at the airport. The Wadia empire is 283 years old business group which has many units including Bombay Dyeing, Bombay Burman Trading, biscuit giant Britannia Industries, airline GoAir and a share in IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab. Its total estimated worth is $13.1 billion.

Wadia also admitted to possession, however, he argued that the drug was for his personal use. Japan’s narcotics laws are strict and hence handed him a two-year prison sentence, which was suspended for five years.

In the past, Ness Wadia came to the light when he had an ugly fight and breakup with Bollywood actress Preity Zinta. She was his ex-girlfriend. On 13 June 2014 after a break-up, Zinta filed a complaint with the Mumbai police against Ness Wadia alleging he had molested, threatened, and abused her at an IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
