The 18% year-on-year Proton cars sales growth is a proven fact. In November this year, Proton moved 11, 411 units. In the same month, Proton delivered 1,756 units of its All-New Proton X50, setting a new sales record in its B- Segment.

As the Proton Exora made a new sales record amongst the MPVs in Malaysia, Proton Saga a Sedan had the 2nd highest sales record in the A-Segment. With the launch of used cars website, Proton is likely to dominate the Malaysian automotive market.

As the bookings for the Proton models grow daily, here are the top-selling cars:

    Proton X50

It’s not for no reason the Proton X50 is worth buying. The 1.5-litre 3 – cylinder turbocharged petrol engine paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox won the Chinas prestigious Automotive Industry Awards for Science and Technology. The exterior design was crafted to perfection under the bold, trendsetting and daring theme.

Contrasting dual-tone treatment in the cockpit gives a nice luxury feeling. Seating on the black and red leather seats and looking at the satin metallic finish of the centre console and dashboard the luxury feeling is more evident.

    Proton Preve

We cannot rule the pricing is anything to attract, but the value for money is what you get. Proton Preve is among the few cars carrying the 5-star badge from Australasian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP). The first model existed in three models but with two engine options (1.6-litre CamPro CFE Turbo and 1.6-litre CamPro IAFM+).

If you choose to pick the 2018 Proton Preve, you’ll be riding on the 1.6-litre CamPro CFE engine with the power to dispense 205 Nm and 140 PS. Evaluating the cost of repair, Preve is not likely to milk you dry.

    Proton Exora

If your family is growing and your pockets are not loaded, Proton Exora should be your dream MPV. For only RM 59,800 – 66,800, you’ll get a 7-seater MPV propelled by a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine that produces 205 Nm and 140 ps. This engine is mated to a CVT transmission system, which pulls the vehicle by the front wheels.

Inside the Proton Exora are 2 airbags, semi leather seats and 7-inch touchscreen unit that connect to WiFi and 4G. The interior is characterized by the large legroom and headroom. Sadly, the boot space is limited.

    Proton Perdana

The 2018 Proton Perdana is a modest sedan car that comes in two options, a 2.0L and 2.4L. Covered by the 2.0L Proton Perdana bonnet is a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 189Nm and 160ps. Choose 2.4L. It’s more powerful as it dispenses 222Nm and 180ps. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed AT transmission system.

This sedan is well loaded with safety features. Among the important features include front passenger and driver airbags, ABS/EBD, immobilizer and driver-assist systems.

    Proton Saga

In August 2020, the Proton Saga broke its sales record in 8-years. Even though the RM 32,800 to RM 39,800 pricing may be the reason behind the high sales, the combination of value and pricing is the greatest influence. Despite being the cheapest sedan, all variants are powered by a 1.3L petrol engines that dispense 98ps and 120Nm.

Analyzing security features, there is little to admire. Only the common simple feature like immobilizer, security alarm and Parking Sensor Rear are available.

    Conclusion

These are tough times, and getting a good car with the best value for money is everybody’s wish. Proton cars have taken the lead as the cheapest models in their segments. Proton X50 and Proton Saga are some of the cheapest cars worth purchase.
