A few days ago Bollywood actor Rahul Bose hit the headlines after he shared a video of him revealing that he got over-charged for two bananas which cost him Rs 442 at Chandigarh’s 5-star hotel, JW Marriott. His video went viral and since then social media users are criticizing and questioning the whole ideology behind the prices that customers pay for food when they are staying at 5-star hotels.

Here’s the video of Rahul Bose:

You have to see this to believe it. Who said fruit wasn’t harmful to your existence? Ask the wonderful folks at @JWMarriottChd #goingbananas #howtogetfitandgobroke #potassiumforkings pic.twitter.com/SNJvecHvZB

After his viral video, Chandigarh Police came into action and gave directives for an investigation into the matter. Well, now the Excise and Taxation Department of Chandigarh fined the hotel Rs 25,000 for over-charging the actor.

Fine of Rs 25,000 imposed on hotel JW Marriott by Excise and Taxation Department, Chandigarh for violation of section 11 of CGST (illegal collection of tax on an exempted item) in connection with actor Rahul Bose's tweet over the price of two bananas served to him by the hotel.

Apart from that, Twitter is sharing screenshots of Taj Hotels’ message to guests that complimentary fruits would be offered. This has been standard practice at Taj Santacruz since its opening in 2016.

Here are some of the reactions on it:

To let you know, after Rahul Bose’ video went viral, people started criticizing high-end hotels for their hypocrisy and called it wrong. One of the Twitter users wrote, “banana coated pill! Gees be reasonable @JWMarriott fruit platters are a part of your hospitality norms, don’t drive your customers away!” Following the incident, the Excise and Taxation Department constituted a team to investigate the matter.
