Sonam Kapoor is a genuine person who is pleasant and always there for everyone, according to Rajkummar Rao. The actor was responding to the criticism she had received online for a video of them together that showed her discussing the difficulties of being a star child.
The duo appeared together in the movie Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Sonam discussed the benefits and drawbacks of being an actor from a family in the entertainment business during a promotional interview for the movie.
Responding to the viral video, Rajkummar spoke to News18 stating that it had happened a long time ago and it is not worth to rethink on it. “That video is edited in a way that it shows my reactions to other things. This had happened long back. I’m not someone to sit and think about it. It was in the moment. Sonam is one of the most kind-hearted girls I’ve met here. She’s so genuine. She’s always been there not just for me but for everyone too. She was putting her point across and I was putting mine.”
He added that Sonam is a great friend and that he recently paid her a visit to meet Vayu, her son. He asserted that nothing has changed between them.
The popular video originated from a Film Companion video. Sonam Kapoor was questioned by Rajkummar about whether or not she thought star children had an advantage in the business towards the beginning of the clip. However, Sonam added, “The downside to that is that a lot of them do not take you seriously because they think you are a baccha (kid). Someone’s an uncle or something, so there is that professional element that just goes away (for star kids). Also, there is not much that grows under a banyan tree. If you are a son or daughter of someone who has been ridiculously successful, there is always going to be comparisons. To find your own path and identity is difficult.”
The top stars in Hollywood, like Robert Downey Jr. and Jennifer Aniston, are star kids, she added, not just in Bollywood or India. In the interview, Sonam also mentioned that it took her five years to land her first movie role. She also mentioned that at the age of 17, she really wanted to help Sanjay Leela Bhansali, but her father, Anil Kapoor, recommended she work with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Although Sanjay was not well-known to Anil, Sonam said that he had told her that Vidhu was his friend. In 2007, Sonam finally made her acting debut in Sanjay’s Saawariya.
