Ram Gopal Varma has poured in much appreciation for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer in this Twitter thread on Sunday and now he also addressed his take on the Bhagavad Gita reference made in the film.

On Monday, Ram Gopal Varma made a tweet, “Irony is that an American nuclear scientist Oppenheimer read the Bhagwad Geeta which I doubt even 0.0000001 % of Indians read.”

His tweet was made in context to Robert Oppenheimer (portrayed by Cillian Murphy) chanting a verse from the pious Hindu text Bhagavad Gita after an intense scene with his girlfriend (played by Florence Pugh).

A Twitter user supposedly agreed with Verma’s tweet and wrote, “That too in Sanskrit, after learning Sanskrit.” Another addwd, “We’ve heard enough Bhagavath Geetha interpretations from others than reading it once with our own interpretation unbiased and unprejudiced.”

While a user also spoke on behalf of the masses, about the objections being raised, “Indians are more worried about showing the bhagvad gita in a bedroom.”

While a section of users had objected to his view, a person wrote, “Many Indians have read the Bible which I doubt 0.000000001% of Americans have ever dared to read…doesn’t mean a thing RGV…” Another added, “Bigger irony is that it includes you too sir!” Another said, “How can majority hindus understand it as it was in coded language, as it was the prerogative of a particular class to know the language for hundred of years.”
