Richa Chadda’s ‘Shakeela’ in which she is playing the role of adult South star. Can have Direct Digital Release.
Richa Chaddha’s biopic Shakeela was amongst the most awaited films of the year. And was in discussion for quite a long time. The film is based on the south Indian Star who was an adult star and explores the life of the controversial Shakeela in the 90s. Directed by Indrajit Lankesh the film showcases the male-dominated star system of the southern industry that dates back to the 90s.
Helmed by Indrajit Lankesh, the film is now complete, and all set to make a buzz. As per the ongoing discussions related to the release of the film. There are probabilities that the film can have a direct digital release. Earlier, the makers of Shakeela were looking at launching their theatrical trailer in March-end, while the release was slated for July but due to the ongoing pandemic situation, there were fluctuations in its release.
A source close to the development of the film stated “The film already had a digital exhibitor and thus, they are the first party to approach. The chances of theatres opening soon look bleak. Keeping that in mind, the producers have initiated discussions with OTT platforms.”
Talking about her role in the film Richa said that to play the role of Shakeela I was quite slim. Perhaps I had to put on weight to fit myself into that character. As the real Shakeela whom she met was quite overweight. The actress further said that undergoing a physical transformation, is not the only thing. There are other aspects also that make you go into playing the character.
