President
The President gets the salary under a law named ‘President’s Achievement and Pension Act, 1951’. In 2018, the President’s salary per month was increased from Rs 1,50,000 to Rs 5,00,000. Apart from this, they get facilities like accommodation, trains, rail and air travel, security, telephone, medical, and insurance in the 340-room Rashtrapati Bhavan at government expense.
After retirement from the post of President, a pension equal to 50 percent of the then salary of the post, and many facilities continue to be available for life. These include housing at government expense, one vehicle, two telephones, one mobile phone, health services, office expenses up to one lakh rupees per year, one private secretary, one additional private secretary, one personal assistant, two peons, and anywhere in India Rail or air or travel in the highest class with one person.
Vice president
The salary of the Vice-President is determined under the ‘Salaries and Allowances of Parliament Officers Act, 1953’. In 2018, the salary of the Vice-President was also increased from Rs 1,25,000 to Rs 4,00,000 per month. Apart from this, facilities like housing, transport, and medical treatment are available at government expense.
Prime minister
There is no separate provision for the salary of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister gets only the basic salary of an MP, Rs 1,00,000 per month. Apart from this, the Prime Minister gets an allowance of Rs 2,000 per day, a hospitality allowance of Rs 3,000 per day, and housing, transport, and health facilities at government expense during the session of Parliament. Instead of meeting Parliament, all this comes from the Consolidated Fund of the Government of India.
Other ministers
Other ministers of the Union Cabinet also get a basic salary of Rs 1,00,000 per month. Cabinet ministers get a hospitality allowance less than the Prime Minister i.e. Rs 2,000 per day, ministers of the state get Rs 1,000 per day, and deputy ministers get Rs 600 per day.
Governor
In 2018 itself, the basic salary of governors was also increased from Rs 1,10,000 to Rs 3,50,000.
Judiciary
The salaries of the judges of the Supreme Court are fixed under the ‘Supreme Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions Act), 1958’ and the salaries of all High Court judges under the ‘High Court Judges (Salaries and Conditions Act, 1954′). After the amendment of these laws in January 2016, the Chief Justice of India gets a basic monthly salary of Rs 2,80,000, the rest of the judges of the Supreme Court, 2,50,000, the Chief Justices of the High Court 2,50,000 and the rest of the judges’ is Rs 2,25,000.
