According to people close to the actor, Samantha Ruth Prabhu intends to take a significant hiatus from her career. Acting will be put on hold for her for a year. Samantha will shortly finish filming for her future films Kushi and the Indian adaptation of Citadel. She won’t sign any new Telugu or Bollywood projects after that. The actor has also reimbursed producers for advance payments she previously received for several prospective projects that she has since withdrawn from.
With Vijay Deverakonda, the actor is currently filming the Telugu movie Kushi. The movie is currently shooting its last scenes, which will be finished in three days. The filming for Samantha’s next online series Citadel is also almost complete.
After that, she intends to stop performing for a year. During this period, Samantha will focus on getting better and pursuing additional myositis treatment. Samantha took a leave of absence from her job last year after learning that she had a rare autoimmune condition. When she was given the medical diagnosis, she was in the middle of filming for her Telugu movie Kushi. Later on, she started working again.
Samantha had mentioned seeking medical attention for her health condition and confessing to professional failures following the failure of her most recent release, Shaakuntalam. She had also revealed she had been praying for strength and calm. She said, “It’s been one year since the diagnosis. A year of forced new normal. Many battles with my body… no salt, sugar or grains with a cocktail of meds for main course, forced shutdowns and forced restarts. A year of seeking meaning, reflection and introspection. Of professional failures too… to make things more interesting. A year of prayers and poojas… not praying for blessings and gifts… but praying to just find strength and peace.”
The last time we saw Samantha was in the Telugu movie Shaakuntalam. Samantha portrayed Shakuntala, the title character in Shaakuntalam and the daughter of Menaka and Viswamithra. Her first endeavour with filmmaker Gunasekhar was the project.
On the Indian version of Citadel, Samantha has been very active. Varun Dhawan also appears in the upcoming programme. For the spy series, Samantha is partnering with Raj and DK, the directors of The Family Man. On April 28, Prime Video debuted Priyanka Chopra’s Citadel.
