The former captain of Nepal’s cricket team, Sandeep Lamichhane, was found guilty of rape on Friday.

Following the conclusion of the last hearings, which began on Sunday, a single bench of Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal issued the order on Friday, as reported by the Kathmandu Post. Lamichhane was found guilty of rape on Friday by the Kathmandu District Court. According to the story, the court also determined that the girl was not a juvenile at the time of the rape.

The player’s jail sentence will be decided at the next hearing

A Nepalese court released the cricket player on bail in January after he was detained following allegations by a female that he had sexually assaulted her in a hotel room in Kathmandu in August of last year.

The Kathmandu district court’s ruling was overturned by a joint bench of Patan High Court judges Dhruvaraj Nanda and Ramesh Dhakal, who agreed to free Lamichhane on a two million rupee bail. Additionally, the 23-year-old was prohibited from leaving the nation until the case’s court decision was rendered.

Following their three-wicket defeat to Nepal in February, the players of the Scotland cricket team declined to shake hands with Lamichhane.

The player was a part of IPL in 2018

Lamichhane, who debuted for the Delhi Capitals in 2018, is the first cricket player from Nepal to compete in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

In addition, the leg-spinner was highly sought-after in other high-profile T20 leagues across the globe, including as the CPL, the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and the Big Bash League (BBL) in Australia.

He now owns the record for being the third-fastest bowler in the world to reach 50 T20I wickets and the second-fastest bowler in the world to reach 50 ODI wickets.
