If, like me, you enjoyed Meg 2, the underwater horror subgenre has a wealth of exciting films to offer. There are several films in the aquatic horror genre that will make you feel frightened and anxious.

    1. Jaws (1975)

In reality, the contemporary blockbuster was created by Jaws. It continues to be the film that most captures our innate dread of what lies under the surface of the ocean. Steven Spielberg’s masterwork turned the wide ocean into a great white shark’s hunting zone, terrorising a little beach hamlet and permanently scaring spectators away from swimming.

    2. Deep Blue Sea (1999)

In Deep Blue Sea, arrogance and science clash as researchers mess with sharks’ intellect, with unintended results. Chaos results as the modified predators turn against their designers, turning the undersea facility into a war for survival against monsters that are more intelligent and lethal than ever.

    3. The Abyss (1989)

A deep-sea diving crew comes into mysterious, alien-like entities while exploring the depths in James Cameron’s The Abyss, a film that combines science fiction and aquatic thriller. This movie investigates the unexplored waters of the ocean, both in terms of its physical depths and its psychological effects on the protagonists, including magnificent underwater shots.

    4. Open Water (2003)

Open Water immerses viewers in the horrific narrative of a couple who were lost in the huge ocean following a diving accident. The film is based on a horrifying true incident. The movie’s harrowing depiction of loneliness and vulnerability on the open ocean accentuates the anxiety of what lurks under the water’s surface.

    5. The Shallows (2016)

In The Shallows, Blake Lively plays a lone surfer who finds herself stuck on a small offshore rock while being pursued by an unrelenting great white shark. The movie turns a lovely beach into an eerie fight of survival with little to no cover and nowhere to hide.

    6. The Deep (1977)

The Deep, based on the book by Jaws author Peter Benchley, introduces a distinct underwater threat. The plot of this movie is on a couple who discover a hidden treasure, only to become involved in a web of mystery and peril as they come face to face with sinister secrets and criminal elements hiding in the shadows.

    7. Black Water (2007)

A monster crocodile assault causes the visitors’ boat to capsize, plunging them into the dark marshes where they must struggle for their lives. Black Water leverages its constrained location to develop a suspenseful story that never lets up.

    8. Below (2002)

David Twohy’s Below is a horror film with a supernatural element. While sailing the perilous seas of the Atlantic during World War II, the crew of a submarine starts to encounter odd happenings and unsettling phenomena. The distinction between the real and the supernatural blurs more and more as the tension builds and crew members start to distrust one another.

    9. Bait 3D (2012)

In the disaster-horror film Bait 3D, a tsunami strikes a seaside town, and the action takes place in a submerged grocery. A exciting and nerve-wracking adventure ensues as the survivors navigate the flooded shop while avoiding ravenous great white sharks.

    10. Piranha 3D (2010)

Piranha 3D isn’t afraid to let loose with the blood and mayhem, despite being on the campier side. Chaos and mayhem erupt in a movie that takes pride in its B-movie heritage when ancient piranhas are unleashed into a lake during Spring Break.
