BTS boy band singer-rapper Suga is likely to not get selected for the mandatory military service at the South Korean military as an active-duty soldier. According to reports by the media, Suga had underwent a surgery at the left shoulder in 2020 due to which the singer will now be deployed as a public service worker. BTS agency BigHit Music have now given their statement post the series of reports fleeted on the internet.

News agency Yonhap stated that, Suga ‘will carry out his military service as a social service agent’. It further added that the rapper will be given the social service work unlike other members who will be serving as an active-duty soldier.

On Tuesday, Soompi quoted BigHit Music message which read, “BTS members plan to serve in the military sequentially according to their own plans. It is difficult to confirm the artist’s personal information.”

The statement added, “Suga also felt that it was important for him to restore himself to good health to prepare for his mandatory military service as well as his post-service musical career. After extensive discussion with the company, the decision was made to undergo the surgical procedure.”

According to Korea Herald, stated that the alternative form of service in South Korea is by serving as a social service agent. These are meant for soldiers who cannot serve as an active soldier due to reasons like health, and family situations. It further added that social agents will ‘serve in one of the government agencies and welfare institutes–schools, government buildings, local parking lots, nursing homes and subway stations’.

Meanwhile, Jin who is the eldest of all has already joined the training before serving as an active soldier. Before entering the boot camp, the singer posed with other members of the group.
