You might be surprised to learn that there is a strong Indian link between The Rolling Stones’ red lip logo and Mike Jagger. As the band’s lead vocalist is now in India, Mick Jagger disclosed that the band’s iconic ruby red tongue and lips emblem was inspired by the Indian goddess Kali in a recent interview with Indian media.
Currently celebrating Diwali with his family, Jagger, the band’s front man, is in India. The image of Goddess Kali was initially brought to Jagger’s attention by one of his brother’s novels, the actor disclosed in a recent interview with The Times of India.
As stated by Jagger in an interview, ”In 1969, I was looking for an image that would be an eye-grabbing thing, and I saw this image of a disembodied tongue of Kali.”
Jagger further added, ”I thought it would be an inspiration. Then, designer John Pasche created this modernistic version of the tongue logo” .
Jagger has posted a few pictures from his trip to Kolkata, where he is right now. He saw the Durga pandals, strolled throughout the city’s lit streets, and did a lot more.
The deity Kali was also depicted in the photo carousel. Mike shared the pictures and wrote, ”Happy Diwali and Kali Pujo. शुभ दीपावली और जय काली मा.”
Jagger had seen the Kali idols when he was recently in Kolkata. But when he related his story, he said, ”It was very noisy, of course. There were so many fireworks.”
Goddess Parvati took on the form of Kali. The goddess of time and death is revered as the Hindu divinity.
