In Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch area on Friday, a convoy of vehicles carrying security officers was met with open fire by suspected militants. The Indian Army began their search operation to find the terrorists in the vicinity after the attack.

“At around 1800h today, a Security Forces convoy of vehicles was fired upon by suspected terrorists from a jungle near Krishna Ghati, Poonch sector. No casualties to own troops. Joint search operations by Indian Army and JKP (Jammu and Kashmir Police) are in progress,” the White Night Corps of the Army tweeted on X.

The vehicles that were returning security personnel to the camp were ambushed by the terrorists. Following the terrorist ambush of a security forces vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir about a month ago, there has been another attack on Army men. Four Army troops were killed in the ambush attack.

A high-level security meeting was recently conducted by Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, the commander of the Northern Army, to develop a plan for counterterrorism operations in the upcoming year and prevent terrorist plots in the area.

Notably, the districts of Rajouri and Poonch were formerly tranquil areas. But in the last few years, terrorist assaults against law enforcement and civilian targets have returned to the two districts.
