Together with his brother Anthony Russo, director Joe Russo has helmed a number of high-profile Hollywood productions, including Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and The Grey Man.

The director discussed Citadel, his next television series starring Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden, as well as other upcoming projects, while he was in attendance at the Sands International Film Festival in Scotland. He talked about supporting other global sectors, such as Bollywood, in order to increase their exposure. He singled out SS Rajamouli’s RRR for enthusing moviegoers all over the world with its narrative. The Telugu song Naatu Naatu received the Oscar for Best Original Song in that category.

Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu will play the main characters in the Indian adaptation of Citadel, which will be directed by the filmmaking team Raj and DK. The Indian version of Citadel is currently being produced, while the original version will debut on April 28.

Russo in conversation with Deadline,  “Certainly a more diverse version and one that’s more international. Bollywood, for instance, is one of the more significant film businesses in the world but it has extremely minimal exposure outside of India. Thank God for movies like RRR, using a level of technical genius, visual effects, and mythological storytelling to appeal to a much wider audience. We learn about other cultures from movies like that. So, I guess, our goal would be empowerment. We want to support other markets as much as possible so their stories can get through in a broader way.”

Joe has previously collaborated with Indian artists on the motion pictures Extraction and The Grey Man.
