The cinema halls are currently closed due to the lockdown. In such a situation, it is being speculated that those films which are hanging for release, can be released on the OTT platform. But the theatre owners have expressed displeasure on this decision.

On May 14, Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrer and Shoojit Sarkar-directed film ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ was also announced for release on Amazon Prime Video. But it seems that theatre owners are not happy with this, they said that theaters and content creators have always worked together in partnership and therefore it is very disappointing to see that in this difficult time our partners are not at all interested in seeing a mutual benefit. This is the time to stand shoulder to shoulder with each other so that it may bring back the better days of the film industry in the future.

Multiplex also wrote in the statement, ‘Today, on May 14, INOX condemns the decision by a production house to release its film on the OTT platform. It is disheartening to see films released directly on OTT rather than theater.’ INOX wants to appeal to all content creators to preserve films for release on theaters.
