The premiere of Greta Gerwig’s next Barbie adaption is on July 21, and fans are eager to attend dressed in extravagantly pink OOTDs. They are reacting with legendary images of Indian actors dressed in hot pink to the Twitter thread titled “Showing up for Barbie premiere like.”
An individual quickly responded to the Twitter thread with an image of Kareena Kapoor as Poo in the 2001 family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham directed by Karan Johar. In Poo’s opening scene in K3G, the actor can be seen wearing clothing created by Manish Malhotra, including a designer cut pink shirt and purse matched with a beige miniskirt. She also says, “Tumhara koi haq nahi banta tum itni sundar dikho?”(You have no right to look this beautiful)
A different user shared a photo of Kajol’s iconic orange-and-pink gaffe from Karan Johar’s 1998 film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, in which she played the part of Anjali. She is dressed in an ensemble created by Manish Malhotra that includes a hot pink blouse and skirt, an orange top with a pink inner lining, a pink locket, and a pink hairband with orange polka dots.
Other outfits that Twitter users opted to show up in at the Barbie premiere’ included shots of Govinda wearing an all-pink suit and sunglasses, Ranveer Singh posing in yet another all-pink outfit, and even Aamir Khan dressed in yellow from Ram Gopal Varma’s 1995 film Rangeela.
Greta and her husband Noah Baumbach collaborated on the writing of the fantasy comedy Barbie. Along with Will Ferrell, pop singer Dua Lipa, and actors Simu Liu and Ryan Gosling, it features Margot Robbie in the main role and Ryan Gosling as Ken. On July 23 it is set to hit the theaters.
