According to Russian news agencies cited by Reuters, Russia accused Ukraine of planning a drone attack on the Kremlin with the intention of murdering president Vladimir Putin. According to RIA, the Kremlin described the strike as a “planned terrorist action” and added that two drones had been utilised in the assault. Both had been rendered inoperable by Russian defences, according to a Kremlin statement.

“Two unmanned aerial vehicles were aimed at the Kremlin. As a result of timely actions taken by the military and special services with the use of radar warfare systems, the devices were put out of action,” the Kremlin mentioned in an official statement.

“We regard these actions as a planned terrorist act and an attempt on the president’s life, carried out on the eve of Victory Day, the May 9 Parade, at which the presence of foreign guests is also planned,” it added.

“The Russian side reserves the right to take retaliatory measures where and when it sees fit,” the statement further mentioned.

According to the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin was unharmed, and the buildings sustained no physical harm. Videos that were extensively disseminated on social media seemed to depict a smoke plume over the Kremlin.

According to Bloomberg, Moscow city authorities published an order prohibiting the operation of drones in the capital just before the Kremlin statement.

According to local media sources, the Kremlin reportedly said the planned May 9 Victory Day march in Moscow would go forward as scheduled.
