Virat Kohli hits another milestone: records a century in his 500th international game

It feels like Virat Kohli is constantly reaching new heights. The former Indian cricket team skipper made the occasion even more remarkable by scoring his 76th international tonne and his 29th Test tonne in his 500th international game. In addition, Kohli has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar, who had 75 international tonnes in his first 500 international games, as the player with the most in 500 games.

Additionally, Kohli is the only player in history to record a century in his 500th international game. The joint-second-most tonnes against the West Indies are now held by Kohli. He barely falls short of Sunil Gavaskar’s record of 13 hundreds with his score of 12 centuries. Jacques Kallis of South Africa has 12 tonnes as well.

Before the West Indies struck four times in the afternoon session to slow India’s scoring rate on Thursday, openers Rohit Sharma (80 off 143) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (57 off 74) established a quick-fire 139-run stand on Day 1 of the second Test to give another ideal launch pad.

India amassed 106 runs in 33.2 overs without losing a wicket thanks to some superb blows from Virat Kohli (87 batting off 161) and Ravindra Jadeja (36 batting off 84). After taking 20 dot balls to get going, Kohli was just 13 runs away from reaching his first century in an international Test match since December 2018.
