Vivek Agnihotri, best known for directing the polarizing The Kashmir Files, has once again targeted Bollywood by sharing a story about famous actors who demand exorbitant salaries but are unable to ensure a successful release.
The piece discussed how Pathaan, the latest movie starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, stands out in a year of mediocre Hindi movies. Bholaa starring Ajay Devgn and Tabu and the love comedies Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar starring Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor have all done well at the box office, but other high-profile films like Shehzada starring Kartik Aaryan and the Selfiee starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi have not fared as well.
Posting screenshots from the piece, the director penned down, “Bollywood is in bad shape. Again. Seems as if the entire industry is happy giving unrealistic and exorbitant fees to stars who can’t even guarantee an opening. Most money is wasted in vanity and lifestyle of stars. What’s going wrong?”
Netizens responded to it, “Sir, I agree that exorbitant fees should be avoided but what about more realistic / entertaining/ awakening storyline or scripts that touch audience… where are they??” Another wrote, “They haven’t come out of the 2000s and 2010s when star power played a huge role in pulling crowds. Post covid scenario has totally placed the ball in the court of content.” A comment read, “Waiting for such tweet after ur next movie…wait and watch.”
