Dermatomyositis is the reason behind the death of actress Suhani Bhatnagar. Here’s something to know about this rare disease.
Suhani Bhatnagar, the young actress who was just 19 and gained fame for her role in the movie “Dangal,” tragically lost her life at the young age after battling dermatomyositis. She suffered from a rare autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the muscles. After her health deteriorated she was admitted to AIIMS, Delhi, on February 7. Due to the severe swelling. However inspite of efforts she unfortunately, she passed away. Her father disclosed that doctors diagnosed the disease after conducting tests at the hospital.
What is Dermatomyositis
Dermatomyositis, the autoimmune disease a highly uncommon inflammatory condition that took Suhani’s life. It is typically charaterized with noticeable skin rashes and muscle weakness, with women being more affected than men. THe worst part is that there’s no permanent cure for this condition. However, the doctors report that the treatments can help alleviate symptoms like skin rashes for some time.
The exact cause of dermatomyositis is still a mystery to scientists. The reasons behind this may include environmental factors, inherited genes, or other autoimmune diseases. People with connective tissue disorders like rheumatoid arthritis might also have a higher risk of developing dermatomyositis. Suhani’s father mentioned that after she ws given steriod treatement for the disease she experienced complications.These complications can include lung problems, cancer, joint pain, and inflammation of the heart. Treatment usually involves managing symptoms with medications like corticosteroids, immune system suppressors, and physical therapy.
Suhani’s father noticed swelling in her hands, Rround two months before her passing which later spread throughout her body. Initially, they thought it was normal, but as the swelling worsened, she was admitted to AIIMS. After the trst reports surffaced it was dermatomyositis. Although the treatment was going complications arose. And the Dangal actress passed away on February 17, 2024, due to weakened lungs, which made it difficult for her to breathe.
