According to an announcement made on X on Saturday, Commander Prerna Deosthalee would become the first female officer in the Indian Navy to command an Indian Naval Warship. In keeping with its ‘all roles-all ranks’ policy for female soldiers, the Indian Navy named its first female commanding officer on a navy ship the day before, according to a tweet from Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar.
A brief about Commander Prerna Deosthalee
According to the Indian Navy, Commander Prerna Deosthale is now the First Lieutenant of the battleship INS Chennai. According to the Free Press Journal, she joined the Indian Navy in 2009 and is from Mumbai.
Additionally, Prerana Deosthali was named the Goa-based INS Trinkat’s commanding officer. “She was recently presented the appointment letter by Western Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Praveen Nair on being selected as Commanding Officer of Waterjet FAC INS Trinkat,” the Navy added.
Lieutenant Commander Prerana is the first female observer on the Tupolev Tu-142, a maritime reconnaissance aircraft. She had previously served on the P8I, another reconnaissance aircraft, according to the Free Press Journal. She was educated at the Convent of Jesus and Mary and is originally from Bombay.
According to reports, St. Xaviers College awarded Lieutenant Commander Prerana a postgraduate degree in psychology. She attended the Jesus and Mary Convent as a student. According to the article, she has a three-year-old kid and is wed to a navy officer.
During a press conference before Navy Day, Admiral Kumar mentioned on Friday, “We also appointed the first woman commanding officer of an Indian naval ship. It has been our effort to constantly challenge the status quo to ensure that the navy remains on an aspirational and dynamic trajectory into the future.”
