Currently, the most entertaining cricket series World Cup is in its full swing. Team India after defeating Bangladesh with 28 runs has made its spot in the semi-finals. But before that, you need to know about the history of India’s first cricket team. It was in 1911 when the first Indian cricket team reached the cricket ground for play.

It all happened after struggling for 12 years and getting rejected for three times. The idea to make an Indian cricket team was made by Indian traders, princes and royal people, government officials who worked with British governers, Indian journalists, soldiers and professional coaches.

However, this team lead by Maharaja Patiala played for Britishers. But India made its debut as a Test-cricket-playing-nation in England in 1932 led by CK Nayudu against England and that was much before Independence. India got defeated by England with 69 runs in this match. England, batting first, scored 258 whereas India managed to make only 189 runs.

In 1948 after a year of Indian independence, team India played its first match as an independent country against Australia at Brisbane. Australia was led by Sir Don Bradman while India was led by Lala Amarnath. Australia won this series of 5 Test matches with the score 4-0.

India’s first-ever Test victory came against England at Madras in 1952. India’s first series victory was against Pakistan later the same year. India won the Cricket World Cup in 1983, defeating West Indies in an exciting final. In 2011, under Mahendra Singh Dhonis captainship India repeated the history and won world cup again. Now, all Indians eyes are on World Cup 2019, will Virat Kohli fulfil Indias hope to take the cup to home?
