In an unexpected turn of events, the best wrestlers in India have increased their protests against Wrestlers’ Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over the alleged sexual harassment case and have travelled to Haridwar to throw their medals, including those won at the Olympics, into the Ganges.

At India Gate in New Delhi, wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Bajrang Punia, and Vinesh Phogat have also declared an indefinite hunger strike. However, farmer activist Naresh Tikait arrived in Haridwar right away and snatched the medals away from the competitors while demanding a five-day grace period.

“These medals are our lives, our souls. There would be no reason to live after throwing them in the Ganga today. So, we will stage a hunger strike until death at India Gate after that,” stated the joint statement issued by the wrestlers.

Since April 23, the wrestlers have been calling for the arrest of the WFI chief, who is also a BJP MP. Additionally, they claimed that the Prime Minister, “who calls us daughters,” never once expressed worry about the matter.
